kickballJust a little reminder for anyone in the Minneapolis area on Thursday, August 27th: mnartists.org is having their annual Field Day at the Walker Arts Center Sculpture Garden. Come for food, kids activities, a screenprinting workshop, Greenspace Games and much, much more. As a special added bonus, local indie rock band Solid Gold is playing at 8:30 in the Greenspace behind the museum. The entire event is free (though you will have to pay for parking, food and beverages if that’s your thing). Come out and see me in  the Bazinet lobby, get a sticker and see what your local art community is up to!

MNArtists.org is an amazing resource for local artists and crafters, and I’m so excited to be a part of their annual Field Day this year. The event is on August 27th at the Walker Arts Center, and activities will be mainly held in the Bazinet lobby, greenspace, and Sculpture Garden. The festivities begin at 11Am and go until 10PM. There will be a screenprinting workshop with Calpurnia Peach, kickball and other games in the greenspace, puppet shows and kids activities at the FlatPak house, an artist’s mall in the lobby, literature and poetry reading by Geoff Herbach and Andy Sturtevant, and even a kid-friendly dance. There will also be a special performance by Minneapolis’s own Solid Gold starting at 8:30,  so you can dance the night away.  And the best part? The event is TOTALLY FREE. Come visit me rom 6PM to 8PM at the .org mall in the Bazinet lobby – everyone that comes down gets a free Craftease sticker and a coupon for 20% off their next order! Come down and check out the Field Day festivities, it’s going to be a rockin’ good time!

A few weeks ago, the lovely Ms. E.W. and I were in our favorite local art store looking for supplies for the upcoming art fair we’re participating in. We were wandering around the store looking at canvas when I happened upon what might become the new favorite craft project among us: at-home screenprinting. The Speedball Original Screenprinting kit comes with everything you need to start screenprinting on any solid flat surface you can think of – paper, boxes, wood, even picture frames. It comes with ink, screens, tracing paper, tools, and the oh-so-important instructions that make it incredibly easy to use. Speedball also has an Ultimate kit that gives you more screens and tools, as well as an instructional DVD, and a Fabric screenprinting kit, but for a beginner that has never entered the world of screenprinting, the Original kit is perfect.
